Kimberly Brown is a woman I deeply admire. She's the executive director of the Interdependence Project (IDP) for short. It's is the only multi lineage secular Buddhist center in New York City committed to personal development and collective engagement through contemplative practice. I owe that place so much. It opened my eyes to buddhism and meditation, and living a sane and (fairly) happy and grounded life. No big deal!

I also took a yearlong teacher training there to become a certified meditation teacher. That training was with the brilliant Ethan Nichtern (founder of IDP) and I highly recommend it!

In this delightful episode Kim and I had a great time connecting on many things. She's grounded, deep, kind, and SO passionate about Buddhism and Meditation- it's inspiring. She has a background in psychotherapy and works with individuals, couples, and groups, and trains business leaders and teams to become more connected, kind, and resilient for themselves and others.

We talk about:
  • How meditation helped Kim with anxiety
  • How true compassion isn't always ooey gooey and loving, sometimes it's sharp and intense and may not always feel good
  • The difference between being "needy" and finding mutual beneficial support in relationships
  • Appreciating and honoring our desire to connect as human beings and our deep need to have intimacy (and that it's a beautiful thing!)
  • How to stop people pleasing, and standing in your power
  • Why finding the right type of Meditation practice for you is super important (there are many kinds!)
  • Why the concept of "ordinary simple things" and "everything is sacred" are actually the same thing!
